Should Tax Education be included in school curriculum?
All throughout our school lives, we are taught about things like the distance between a monkey and a bunch of trees it has hopped through or about how the petals of a flower unfold and many such things. We aren’t saying that learning about any of these is useless, but maybe if schools also taught us on how tour bills and taxes are calculated and how do they work, it would be much better! Tax education is a vital and important aspect of our life.
Paying taxes is something that everyone must be aware of in their professional and as well as their daily lives in general. A lot of times, you must have heard someone talking about a ‘tax day’ or ‘paying taxes’. But, why do we need to pay taxes? The government has officials like the lawmakers and executives and the entire judiciary, who work because they receive their incomes in the form of taxes. Taxes are basically the amount of money we pay the government to help it function and provide us with the basic amenities that we need.
Also, taxes come in various forms. When we start working getting a job, what we pay becomes income taxes. Depending on the amount of money that you are earning, a part of it is withheld and then sent to the government as tax or income tax. There are also things like sales taxes, which you pay when you buy an item from the store and then there are also property taxes, which you pay once you own a property and this is the tax that arises out of the value on the property.
Paying taxes are generally considered to be a very civic act, and the tax that we pay always goes into supporting resources firefighters and policemen who are basically government workers. The tax money that also ensures that the roads we use are safe for use and well maintained as tax also goes into public funds, like maintenance of public libraries and parks.
Tax Education is therefore undoubtedly an important part of our lives, but also easy to learn about. Elementary schools and just school education in general must include teaching about it in the curriculum.
